Moving Frequently Asked Moving Questions (FAQ)
While you move, there are many aspects you need to take care of. Children are one of them. Preparing children for the move needs extra attention. You can tell your children about the move and what it means. Keep their items like toys, books, blankets, teddy bears, etc. available so that they can keep themselves in the normal routine. If possible, take your children to a new community before the move. This will help them get acquainted with the new surroundings.
Above everything, listen to your children, and keep that communication open and honest to make them feel comfortable during the move.
Of course yes! The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) allows us to move plants and pets for the trip less than 150 miles and under 24 hours. However, some states may want to quarantine them during the move. The DOT also prohibits moving companies to ship animals in moving vans. If your pets and plants can’t travel with you, ask our moving experts to make arrangements to safely transport them to your new home.
There are many ways in which you can save the cost of your relocation. One of the most important ways is to make sure you don’t move excessive stuff. De-clutter your stuff and sell or donate the excessive belongings. This will not only reduce the cost of your move but also ease the burden of packing and moving. Additionally, it is highly recommended to hire affordable movers for the task. They are cheap as compared to moving alone.
Yes you can! But we don’t recommend you to pack your possessions by yourself. The reason behind this is very simple – safety. You are not a professional mover who can pack your stuff in the safest manner. You can make mistakes that can result in damage or wreckage of your valuable possessions. Also, packing is a time-consuming and nerve-racking task. So, hiring professionals is highly recommended.
One of the other major advantages of hiring a professional moving company is the assurance that your belongings will safely arrive at your new location. Our trained packing professionals are able to make any commercial or residential move successful.
After delivering your belongings at your new location, your van operator will ask you to cross-check your items and sign the Inventory of Household Goods. If any item is missing or damaged, you need to mention it on the inventory sheet at the time of delivery. This is called “inventory exception”.
Signing the Inventory of Household Goods is a declaration that all items and cartons were received in their original condition. We don’t expect you to unpack every carton before signing. If for any reason you are unable to sign the Inventory Exception Document, please indicate this in the sheet and notify North American Van Lines immediately at 1-800-348-2111.
Accessorial services are any services provided to you in addition to the linehaul transportation.
Ask us to fully explain the total range of services available — including: crating, packing, unpacking, appliance services, elevator, stair and long carries, or shuttle service when access to your residence is limited and a second, smaller truck may be necessary.
According to DOT, the transportation of flammable, combustible, or corrosive materials is prohibited. Therefore, the moving of flammable substances is against the law for movers. It is advised to safely drain or dispose of these materials including household paints, bleaches, propane tanks, gas cans, and fuel in power equipment.
When you are moving any delicate piece of electronic equipment, there are a few precautionary measures that can ensure its safe arrival. A few suggestions include, make a backup copy of all your data, remove any diskette from the disk drive, and move PC in its original carton. Additionally, you can consult your local computer dealer or expert for more help.
